Superinsulated retirement home inspired by a Finnish sauna the homeowner was particularly fond of. Occupied from May to October by an extended family, the home welcomes all comers to an annual 4th of July party and daily swim at a refreshing 3 acre pond. With a guest house for the grandkids and an outdoor shower, this place is a super efficient haven for the family.
This was the first TJI wall assembly home we built, inspired by PHIUS founder Kat Klingenbergs Illinois Passive Houses. Interior and exterior cladding as well as site built doors were Western Red Cedar. This combined with a bronze stained concrete slab makes for very low maintenance. The home has hosted BEBL meetings for NESEA and other visitors over the years who are interested in high performance design.
