Log Cabin DER

residential  i  deep energy retrofit  i  renovation

A young family with a hankering to be in the mountains came across a leaky, cold, old log cabin. There had been an oil spill in the basement which was remediated. They got a good price on it partially in recognition of the environmental hazard.

They call asking us to do a deep energy retrofit. The remit was to make the building all electric with solar production, car charging and good clean fresh air, a few bathrooms. The century-old scribe log cabin is just outside the village in Bethlehem and is well known in the community. Lore has it that it was a speakeasy and a bordello during prohibition. Now it has a new life as a cozy warm vacation (and perhaps full-time) home for a lovely young family and their beloved dog.
